An end to a problem as old as the road

Regardless of the aerodynamic configuration of the tractor, all trailers suffer from the drag produced by the flow of air off the tail of the trailer. Sometimes referred to as “Trailer Wake” or “Base Drag”, it’s a problem that has been a part of trucking since trucking began. This “Trailer Wake” is actually a swirling vortex vacuum at the back of the trailer that also contributes considerably to crosswind hazard. The faster the truck travels the greater the drag produced. Aerodynamic considerations have come along way in the last twenty years, but “Base Drag” is the one problem that has been left behind. The vortex formed in the wake of a trailer produces an unseen, power-robbing parachute which gains in intensity as speed increases. Dragfin puts an end to this age old problem and increases fuel efficiency by more than 1.4 miles per gallon.

Advanced aerospace comes to over-the-road

Designed and tested using the same software utilized in the production of contemporary jet aircraft, Dragfin disperses the flow of air as it leaves the trailer tail and inhibits the formation of the vortex vacuum. Without the vortex, the trailer simply pulls easier, and is easier to control in crosswinds.

Because the vortex drag is associated only with the trailer, even tractors with a less streamlined Cab-Profile benefit equally. For older trucks, Dragfin makes the back of the trailer the perfect place to begin aerodynamic improvement.

Dragfin increases fuel economy and enhances crosswind control.

Now you have a better handle on the wind.

The trailing vortex acts like a lever for crosswinds on the trailer tail and intensifies the effect of crosswind hazards. As the crosswind blows across the back of the trailer, the trailing vortex gives the crosswind a virtual lever on the trailer tail. The added effort required to counteract the crosswind effect contributes greatly to driver fatigue and makes for some very long days in windy conditions. Dragfin eliminates the lever, and provides greater control in crosswind situations. With Dragfin, eight hours behind the wheel doesn’t wear drivers down like before.  And, without the drag, the truck can travel five miles, or more, per hour faster on the same fuel. That can translate into more than an extra hour per day.

Installs in minutes

Dragfin is fifteen aerodynamic fins mounted to a 4-inch strap in spaced relation necessary to disrupt the vortex. Installation is as quick and simple as tightening a ratchet strap.

Just toss the lanyard winder over the back of the trailer and pull. Feed the strap into the ratchet, cinch the strap tight, and get on the road.

Dragfin is designed for any length 13′- 6″, or lower clearance, box-truck or trailer, and It works on any truck type or model regardless of age or the aerodynamics on the tractor.

Calculate your savings

Average Weekly Miles______

Divide by Current MPG______
x Average cost of fuel $3.00
x weeks on the road______
x .20%______

Depending on your driving and idle habits you’ll see a 15%-20% savings under what you are currently spending on fuel.

Add that to reduced fatigue, longer range, and improved safety.

Dragfin installs and removes easily for quick trailer changes.

The added control and comfort more than compensate for the minimal effort to install.

Dragfin pays for itself in less than seven weeks.

No one knows better than you what your fuel economy is, but if your truck travels 3000 miles per week, and you currently average 6 mpg OTR, that’s 500 gallons of fuel, and if you can average 7.4 mpg with Dragfin, you’ll see fuel savings of around $283.00 per week. That means an extra $14,150.00 for the year.

If you know your annual fuel costs simply subtract 15-20% to estimate your savings.

It’s like getting Dragfin for free in your next 2-months of fuel.
If you don’t order Dragfin, you’ll still pay for one in 2-months of fuel.

The results shown here are the lowest we experienced during testing. This is an unusual departure from typical marketing methods, but in the interest of integrity, and to ensure customer satisfaction, we would rather show the minimum improvements that operators can expect. We saw higher results, and you will too. You will likely see improvements that average 1.5 MPG or more.

Robert E. Miami, FL

"I noticed a difference right away in how the truck handled"

“I noticed right away in how the truck handled in a crosswind. Pulling a 53′ Dry, it felt like I wasn’t even pulling a trailer. The trip fuel said I was at 9 MPG. That’s like 2 miles better than normal. This thing is cool.”

“I knew we were just doing a test run, but as soon as they took those fins off the trailer it started tuggin’ and pullin’ back and forth. Told them I want those things back on my trailer right now. They work good”
